i hope it does. I went to the gym today and did leg lifts and i swear it felt like my c-section area was hurting more than my ab muscles. it is weird, it has been almost 16 months, yet there is still this odd pain/irritation that happens when i do lower ab exercises.

Yup, totally weird. I could feel that scar..I know I should have started working out sooner and get that thing used to moving/stretching..oh well, I am used to doing things the hard way anyway...

It will!  I started doing ab work fairly soon after DD was born, but it was definitely uncomfortable in the beginning.  For me, pilates was an easier way to start rebuilding those muscles.  Once my core started getting stronger, dedicated ab work became much easier.  You might try doing more core work (e.g., the plank) at first.
