3rd Trimester

Grooming/waxing "down there"

I was just reading the post below about waxing and the MSN article when I received my usual weekly newsletter from the hospital I'm delivering at. The newsletter this week had an article about hair removal and how it's not recommended at this stage of the game. Here's what it said:

No need to shave
If you are in the habit of shaving your pubic hair, or near it, it is recommended that you give it a break at this point until after your baby is born. If a cesarean section is required, or any other procedure that might require hair removal, the removal should be done at that time according to the hospital's policies and procedures. Other hair removal techniques can traumatize the skin and lead to infections.

Interesting!

Re: Grooming/waxing "down there"

  • My OB said the same thing.

  • Loading the player...
  • But i dont want to be hairy Sad Boo...

  • Actually mine said the exact same thing.. I figure I would groom now and then not do it again until delivery.  Seemed like a happy median to me.
  • My OB told me this with my first pregnancy, but honestly, I had to trim it otherwise it would be a complete nightmare.
  • It would be a lot easier to let it go than to do the mirror/touch thing I've got to do at this point anyway.
  • Trimming is fine, as said by my OB... but shaving and waxing is what they want you to avoid. You are more prone to infection late in pregnancy, and there are a lot of germs that can live on that area of skin, not to mention on your razor, etc.

Trimming seems to be working out just fine for me. I can't see down there anymore anyhow... LOL

  • I haven't been hairy down there in a veryyyy loooong time, I don't know if I can deal with letting go. :/

  • I got the same advice.
  • Yep trimming is A-okay. It is waxing and shaving that actually give you microscopic abrasions that bacteria can get into...especially when you are in the hospital and all the germies there, ewww :(
  • I was wondering about this. I can't even see the area I shave anymore anyways. And how do you girls trim, if you can't see. I tried and was so afraid of cutting something, I had to stop. I was thinking about asking hubby to help out, plus it might lead to something else..woohoo!! Wink

  • I use Nair, so I don't have to worry about the cuts or anything... I know some of you don't like using certain chemicals and I don't usually, but Nair is the only thing that works for me without making a bunch of bumps!!
  •  I have my brazilian wax appointment on thursday...oh well!
