So yesterday evening I had some spotting. ?It was bright red and I freaked out as I have gone this dar with NO spotting. ?I called My Dr's office and they said to go to the ER. ?We went but the ER doc was horrible. ?He was not an OB and just very cold. ?He kept saying that I could be losing one baby or both and that there is nothing they could do for me if that was the case. ?While I realize that he was correct and I know they couldn't have done anything, it really didn't help to hear it and it certainly didn't help to keep me calm. ?Anyway, they did an u/s and both babies are alive and moving, but the tech made a comment about baby A being "smooshed." ?The spotting stopped and they had to give me a shot of Rhogam (spelling?) because my blood type is A-. ?They also placed me on bed rest for 3-4 days, and pelvic rest. ?I am quite relieved that the babies are okay, but the whole experience was awful. ?I am also aware that some spotting is common, they said it could have been because of everything growing and getting bigger. ?But the whole experience was so upsetting and makes me wonder about any future problems. ?I am curious if anyone else had spotting? ?Also, what are your Dr's procedures for if something goes wrong? ?Do they just have you go to the ER? ?I couldn't even speak to the on-call Dr., however the ER doc called and got the Ok for the shot. ?It just made me think about if there are any future problems am I just going to be told to go to the ER and have to deal with an ER doc whose not an OB. ?Any thoughts/experiences would be helpful. ?Also, my Dr is currently out of the country and when I called today to say that I want to be seen by an associate they fit me in for tomorrow. ?I should also mention that my Doc is not a specialist, so as soon as we found out it was twins (last Wed) I was already thinking we would need to switch. ?Now I really don't know what to do. ?TIA!?
Re: Spotting and visit to ER (long)
I started spotting really early and my ob had me come in asap for a u/s and beta testing. But I called during business hours. Did you call after hours?
I had spotting around 14/15 weeks. When I called the office the nurse said she'd check with the dr. and call back, but usually they recommend drinking lots of water and resting. She called back with those exact instructions and I highly doubt that she even checked with the dr. She did tell me if the bleeding increased or if I had cramping to call back. The next day I started having cramping, though the spotting had stopped, but I called just in case. This time a different nurse checked with the on-call dr. (mine was off) who gave the same instructions, but when the nurse heard it was twins she said she was going to talk to my doc first thing in the morning and have his nurse call me in case he had further instructions. The next morning my dr's nurse called and told me to come in to get checked out. I think my dr. understood the importance of my needing some peace of mind and figured it was better safe than sorry. Not once did they ever say that if something happened it was beyond their control, obviously, we know that, but it's not something we need to hear. Anyways, in my case the dr. figured something must have irritated the cervix, perhaps I lifted something too heavy.
Sorry you had to go through that. Get some rest and I hope everything goes well for you!

Thank you. ?I am continuing to look for another doctor and have an apt. next week. ?The one problem is that there is literally one perinatologist in all of the area that I live in. ?I see them Thursday for my NT scan and tomorrow I asked them how I can make an appt. ?They said that I would need a referral, I will be asking for one tomorrow. ?Thank you so much!?
