Sam variations for a girl

My husband's late grandfather's name was Samuel which was supposed to be the middle name if we were having a boy.  We were delighted to find out last week that we are having a girl!!!  Now we need to come up with a name.  DH and I are not huge fans of Samantha.  We love Sam and Sammy for a girl, but we feel she needs a full name.  Please help with Sam variations for a girl with a middle name Jane!!!! Confused Here's what I have so far: (thoughts?)

Samona Jane

Samlyn Jane (not sure of spelling maybe Samlynn)

Re: Sam variations for a girl

  • Samona is OK.  I don't like Samlyn.  But I do think Samantha Jane is beautiful together.  If you don't plan on using her full name & want to call her Sammy or Sam anyway is it that big of a deal to use a classic name like Samantha?

  • Samara?

    Samlyn sounds odd to me.

  • Samona is cute. Don't like Samlyn.?

I had a student named Samara, although it's NMS because of the movie The Ring. Also...

    Samah - generosity

    Samaire - elm tree

    Samala - asked of God

    Samera - guarded by God

?You could also have Sam as part of the name, but not necessarily at the beginning, like JesSAMine, or Maysam (means beautiful).?

There are more. If you go to yeahbaby.com, you can type in "sam" to their name search and it will show you all the names that contain it.?

  • I like Samara a lot!
  • What about Samirah?  Or Samyra?
  • I knew a Samsara growing up.
  • I like Samantha best. Samera and Samona/Simona are ok.

I'm not big on Samlyn (reminds me of Salmon).

  • Samona is ok but definitely NMS.

I don't like Samlyn at all.

I like Samantha, although I do find it to be a tad 80s.

What about using Samantha as the mn?

    Are you serious???
  • Samara.  If we have a little girl this will be her name.  I have loved it for years and it just keeps better in my opinion.

  • I love Samantha, but if you don't, Samara is pretty. I've never heard the other two.
  • Saleema is an Arabic name that the nn Sam works with. It means "Healthy, protected". Salma is another, meaning "beautiful woman" .
  • Out of all the ones people have mentioned I like Samara.  It isnt too bad.  Alot of those names you might have trouble with pronunciation.  Even though I normally like unique names, in this situation, if you are going to call her Sam, I would name her Samantha.

  • Samona is not bad. I do not like Samlyn at all. Samara is very nice and so is Samira. I would choose Samantha, though and call her Sam.

See DD"s name, but I would have gone for Samara, except it's the creepy girl from The Ring. I also liked Samwise for a boy, but DH nixed it.

  • This is hard. Maybe Simona? But that's a long shot to Sam.

I do not like Samona or Samlyn. I don't even think they *are* names, right?
