So we ended up moving our appt from Monday to today, to talk about whether or not I'm going on lovenox injections. (Turns out we'll probably doing some tests next week (bloodwork) to check some things and then decide.) Anyways, we also had our first ultrasound. We really weren't sure what we'd see since I don't really know how far we are.
Anyways, basically, we're not sure how this is going to play out. The ultrasound measures us about 5w2d, which also goes along with when I typically ovulate and when I think we might have conceived. There is a gestational sac and yolk sac, both of which go along with that timeline.
I asked that they run another beta, just to make me feel better about things - and that ended up making me feel worse. It was 3000 on Monday and today it was 17,000! Sure, doubling time is 41 hours which is good - but 17,000 is really high for 5w2d. Also I've read that you should see a fetal pole and heartbeat after 10,000 - but is that just because 10,000 is typically in the 6th week or is it because 10,000 is some magic number?
I've googled it and gets all sorts of options - a few of which are scary. I've found several people who have high betas and everything ends up fine, so there's that. Dr. S said she had a patient who was in the 90,000s and they didn't see anything, yet she ended up having a beautiful baby.
So right now it's a waiting game - we have another u/s on Wednesday afternoon.
So that's where we're at - just wanted to update you.

Said a prayer for you that this will end up a healthy pregnancy that results in a healthy baby, and none of the scary options.
((hugs)) Laura. I just feel certain that everything is going to be fine! My guess as to the 10,000 and being able to see a fetal pole and heartbeat is because that's where a beta should be (at the minimum) by 6 weeks. I mean, it seems that what is developed is dictated by time, and not by the hCG level.
Laura,
).
I've seen high betas like that in the past with normal pregnancies. I'm not surprised that they didn't see a fetal pole or heartbeat. The last couple ultrasounds I ordered at 5-5.5 weeks didn't have fetal poles or heartbeats (if that makes you feel any better
I'll be praying for you!
Ditto this. I believe doubling times slow down the farther along you get and not seeing a fetal pole or heartbeat happens to lots of people at the early end of 5 weeks. (((HUGS))) I'm saying so many prayers for you guys!
I have no idea what my beta was at that particular time, but I had an u/s with Elliott at 6w1d and saw a hb - it was in the 90's. His heart had JUST started beating the week before.
Sending good vibes, prayers, and sticky dust your way....hang in there. It could just simply be too early to see the hb. This time next week, I would bet that you would see one.
