Infertility

Is monitoring covered?

Hey ladies!  I'm about to start my first round of clomid.  My ob/gyn is starting me off at 100 mg.  I asked about being monitored and she said I could call up if I had any problems but she didn't schedule anything before hand.  How do I know if monitoring is covered with my insurance?  Should I force to be monitored or just go in if I don't feel well like the doc said?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Is monitoring covered?

  • Clomid can cause high order multiple, cysts, as well effect of your lining. Monitoring can prevent or at least make you aware of the effects this very serious drug has on your body. You really NEED to be monitored. Not all insurance does cover infertility related services, call yours to check.

  • You should definitely be monitored, to see if the clomid is working, and to watch for side effects, cysts, etc.  Call your insurance, or check your plan booklet.

  • My RE office called the insurance company for me to determine if I had coverage.  I have no IF coverage, but diagnostics (U/S, and B/W) are covered.  So that helps a bit with costs

  • I did my first round of clomid with my ob/gyn. . .i wish i knew then what i know now.  you need to get yourself to an RE asap.  and you definitely need to be monitored.  you could have problems pre-existing that the clomid could aggrevate that you don't even know about....
