Has anyone had any experience with a Chicago area doula that they loved and would recommend or was highly recommended by a friend? I feel like I don't know where to start! I looked at the DONA website but there are so many! How am I just supposed to randomly pick someone?
Re: Chicago Doula recommendation?
I used Victoria Reed and she was amazing. She helped me have an unmedicated birth at Prentice and there's no way I could have done it without her -- https://www.vdoula.com/
She was really supportive afterwards too.
I have no experiences with a doula, but my midwife higly recommends Rita with Mother Me Inc.

I haven't spoken with any doulas yet, but one of the ones I'm considering had her fee or $950 listed on her website. That includes two prenatal visits, continuous labor support, post-birth transition, telephone consults as needed, and postpartum visit one to two weeks after birth. Further postpartum visits as requested are $25.00 an hour.
I'm not sure if that's typical or not though.
I responded on the second trimester board, too....
I gave birth to DS on July 1, 2008 at Evanston and my doula was unable to attend my birth, so she had to send her back up doula, Leah Koop. Leah was wonderful (she's certified) and definitely made a huge difference in me being able to achieve natural childbirth.
I probably talked to 8 doulas on the phone and interviewed three. You'll find sometimes it just comes down to personality fit.
Leah's contact information is:
We used Michelle Steele as our doula. Her rate was $350 for 2 prenatal appointments and attendance for the birth. She was AWESOME!!!! I totally recommend using her. We couldn't have done it without her.
