Please Rec. Good Infertility Doc

Hi all,

Just found out we have to go to an RE, and we want to make sure we try to get the best so we can end up with a baby at the end of this journey. Any recommendations of a great infertility specialist would be appreciated. We will travel anywhere in MD. TIA:)

Shady Grove Fertility was highly recommended to me by both my OB/GYN and a friend. My first appointment is next week with Dr. McKeeby in Annapolis, so I don't have any first hand experience to share yet. I've heard a lot of great things and know they are supposed to be one of the best. They have offices throughout Maryland, so you could probably even pick an office near your house.

    Good luck!

    Hi there,

Shady Grove Fertility was recommended to me as well.  I had a consultation with them, had all the pre-screening tests done, and then got pg on my own...however, they were fantastic!  I saw Dr. Mottla in Annapolis and he was great.  I don't know where you live, but I have also seen both doctors in the Columbia office, and they are also great.  GL!

I got lucky that my regular GYN has also become a fertility specialist.  She's at Hopkins (I see her at the White Marsh office, but I think she also works in Columbia).  Dr. Kristina Altman, I think she is only accepting new patients for fertility these days.

I work in an OBGYN office and we refer to Dr Katz at, you guessed it, Shady Grove Fertility at GBMC. We have had lots of patients that have had success at Shady Grove. Good luck!

    Good luck.

That happened to me as well! Had the consultation, waited for "Day 1" so I could start our treatment cycle (clomid, IUI) but "Day 1" never came ;) I also went to Shady Grove in Bel Air and saw Dr. Katz. He for ok, very thick accent, so it was hard to understand him, and he talked fast but he was nice enough!

I second The Fertility Center Of MD, in Towson.  My RE was Dr. Padilla, but I also had good experiences with Drs. Smith and Bass.  That being said, there is one nurse there with questionable bedside manner, she made me quite upset more than once.  Good Luck!

Hi Bella, Shady Grover fertility is definately highly recommended in my book!  I have polycystic ovaries and one blocked tube. I started with Shady Grove in January of this year. My first IUI was in April which didn't work but my second IUI in May did! We'd been through two miscarriages over 2 years before going to Shady Grove. They're very thorough in everythign they do and they have numerous locations in MD, DC, and VA. So keep heart, I'm sure they've seen a story just like yours :-)

I rec Shady Grove. I went to the Annapolis office and saw Dr. Mckeeby he was great. He was very thorough, knowledgeable,& reassuring. I also saw Dr. Mottla once and liked him as well. We got pg on our 2nd IUI. My twins are now 18mths.  I have several frinds that went to the Columbia,Frederick, and Rockville office and they were all very happy and have lots of beautifil babies.

I would rec chosing an office close to your home or work. Once you start a cycle you will be making ALOT of visits. When I was doing the IUI cycles I had to go into the office every other day,I think that's right it might have been everyday on some occasions.

I see doctor Padilla.  I love this place because Dr Smith also does acupuncture.  The ladies are super nice as well!

I also went to the Fertility Center of Maryland in Towson, I heard shady grove was good but FCOM was closer to where we lived at the time.  I liked Dr. Bass the best.

After 3 fresh IVFs and 1 frozen cycle, I recommend Fertility Center of MD (FCOM) 110%. I went to Shady Grove Annapolis for one of those cycles and was just not happy. Shady grove felt too big and I was treated like number. I HATED having to drive to rockville for major procedures and found the rockville staff to be cold as ice. I was only ever allowed to get info from my nurse - was prohibited from speaking to the lab and embryologists. My nurse was knowledgable, but not in comparison to an embryologist. My cycle at SG was the worst one of all that I had.

FCOM is warm, friendly and caring. They have truly treated my DH and I like family. SG was 10 min from my house, but I would gladly drive the 45min to Towson for the extra care and warmth that we were shown at FCOM. I loved seeing the same docs, nurses and embryologists every time.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

I go to Shady Grove at GBMC and see Dr. Katz, who I love. I was at Johns Hopkins for my first two IUIs and was unhappy with the Fellows that would do procedures. I am doing my last IUI at SG and then will move on to IVF. I have many friends who have gotten pregnant at Shady Grove and Fertility Center of MD. If I were ever to leave SG I would go there.

    Good Luck.

I went to shady grove and it was the most wonderful practice! I saw Dr. Osheroff in Columbia and he could not be a nicer or more helpful doctor!?

I'm working with Dr. Kristina Altman at Bayview who is really, really good.

She probably thinks I'm crazy because I am in tears practically every time I see her since at Bayview there are usually a fair amount of pregnant teenagers in the waiting room and it frustrates me to see all these girls who probably don't even want a baby having one. She has been incredibly supportive and nice and very patient with my frustrations.

She also seems to be well-educated and well-aware of current research in both the US and Europe.  She referred me to Hopkins Greenspring for IVF but I am still going to try to see her when I can.  I will go to Hopkins for an initial consultation next week.

I'm also considering SGFC at GBMC and kind of liked them when I met with them yesterday.  My DH really liked them though.

    Good luck!!

I have had experience with both Shady Grove and Hopkins and highly recommend Dr. Jairo Garcia at the fertility and edocrinology center at Hopkins Greenspring.  Unlike the very negative doctor at Shady Grove, Dr. Garcia gave me a lot of hope and encouragement in spite of my age (41) and high FSH levels and outlined a plan for us. He specializes in these more difficult cases.  Ultimately, we didn't go forward with the plan because we got pregnant naturally in the first month!  They have been following me with ultrasounds and blood tests through the first two months until I transfer to a regular OB.

I've been going to Shady Grove for over a year now (PCOS).  I got my first ever BFP after our first IVF cycle.  Dr. Timmreck was my RE.  She is always very reassuring and informative.

SG IS large, but it's also one of the best, nationally, with the best success rates--see the CDC's report on infertility clinics and success rates.  And because they are large, they are always open, have many locations, and schedule around YOU rather than their schedule or limitations.  You have a full team taking care of you, from an assigned nurse, to the RE, to a financial coordinator to help you work out insurance and payment.  The financial coordinator was a lifeline for us, as dealing with our insurance and accessing our IVF coverage was a nightmare.
