feeding issues

My DD was born at 31 weeks.  She was doing great, stayed in NICU for 1 1/2 weeks before she moved to step down nursery. Then out of the blue her belly expanded and was taken back to NICU. The doctors ruled out NEC (thank God). They let her bowels rest for a few days and are slowly working her back up on feeds.  She was getting brestmilk but they changed her to pregestimil. They will eventually try breastmilk when she get back up to her full feeds.

Has anyone experienced feeding issues with your LO. If so, how long did it take until they were on full feeds again and was able to tolerate it.

Re: feeding issues

  • Robbie had I think 4 NEC scares in the NICU. He'd have bloody stool. Usually they'd put him back on plain breastmilk for a few days, then try to work him up again. I gave up dairy because they thought maybe that was aggravating him as well.

It was hard and terrifying.. but Robbie has just turned out to have a lot of stomach issues (we found out later that he as an incomplete diaphragm at birth- not related to prematurity. He's has surgery to repair it twice now.)
