Nanny question re: 4 day work week and holidays

Question:

My Nanny works Monday - Thursday (40 hours per week)

If a holiday falls on a Friday, she doesnt get paid for it since it is not part of her work week. However, what do I do about 4th of July. The holiday falls on a Saturday - both my husband & I have the Friday off so she wouldnt get paid for the holiday. Is that fair? or should I be giving her the Monday off instead?

Re: Nanny question re: 4 day work week and holidays

  • Hi Denise,

I'm a placement counselor at the Boston Nanny Centre, and what we tell our clients is that the nanny is paid for any major holidays that fall on a typical work day.  Since Friday the 3rd is the observed day for the 4th this year she wouldn't be paid for that day.  Next year, when the 4th is on a Sunday, the observed day is Monday the 5th, so she would have that day off and paid.  Is that clear?  I'd be happy to answer any other questions - my office line is 617-527-0114. Thanks!  Jen Russo

  • I wouldn't pay her - it seems like you just pay her when a holiday hits her during her normal work week and this isn't the case here. :-)
