Back from WTF/plan for IVF attempt #2

Since I didn't respond to low stim, I asked the RE about high stim. She doesn't think that high stim is the way to go for me, since with my high FSH my body was already producing a lot of stim on its own, without result. So pumping me full of more when my body is not responding prob won't work, she says. She thinks the trick is to get my body to start working and then give it a little nudge. Now, how to accomplish this is still unclear - she wanted to talk to the head doc who is on vaca until tomorrow - so I won't know how my protocol is being modified until then. And it's cutting it close but she wants me to start stims tomorrow as well (I got AF this week too). I know that it will be antagonist, and I've been doing estrogen priming.

Anyway, I know this line of thinking is unconventional and part of me is thinking (as are you guys probably) I should just try high stims (or something else like MDL). But, this clinic specializes in high FSH patients and I know I'm a tough case, so maybe I just need to trust them.

In good news, my FSH was 8 on CD2!?

  • May! That is great-I agree that you prob would do better with low stim. I guess it depends on how high your fsh is though, and with an 8 on day 2, I would not be afraid to try high.

Def keep me posted on how your cycle goes! I am in a little bit of limbo but its a good thing...my protocol for next time is way long since we are doing endometrial co culture so I will not be cycling until August. I will live vicariously thru you ladies!

Hey Caityr! My FSH has been quite high in the past, but taking the estrogen lowers it (which is partly why they give it I think). Of course I'm glad it's low, but not sure if it makes a difference how it gets that way in determining protocol.

Good luck with the co-culture! I hope it finally gives you your sticky BFP. Enjoy your time off until then - I feel like I'm missing summer by cycling now. Of course if it means getting pg I'll gladly give it up ;)

  • Have you looked into immunology testing at all? I've just been reading up on it the last few days and it might be worth discussing with your doc. They basically do a bunch of blood tests to determine if there is anything in your body that would be toxic to a fertilized egg that would attack it and prevent it from implanting. They say for women who have had 2 IVF failures if over 35 and 3 IVF failures if under 35. If our IVF does not work I'm thinking of looking into it.

Is this the same as autoimmune testing? I did ask about this and it's something I want done (I'm going in for b/w tomorrow so hopefully they can do it then). I don't think this is my main issue, but you never know -I'd rather cover all my bases up front. thanks!

  • Def ask. The other thing I found out today was that there is potential connection between high fsh and carrying fragile x syndrome. Cornell is testing me for it.
