Baby Names

stop taking the boys names for your daughters.

You have Ashley, Leslie, Stacey, and Courtney. All were common boys' names before they were taken over for girls.

If you take all the "good/cool" boys names out there now and turn them into girls' names, us boy mamas are going to have to work twice as hard to make NEW cool names.

so STOP IT. There are plenty of girls' names out there. CHOOSE ONE OF THEM.

that is all.

  • Yes

And I really miss Ashley. It would be #1 for a boy for me, if only I thought he wouldn't get beat up on the playground:(

  • Don't forget Kelly. And for the most part Cameron. And Casey. And all the "son" names.?

  • I agree with you 100%. I doubt Adam (my future ds) will turn to a girls name, but you never know :)
  • I have a girl in my care named Daryn.  It looks pretty but sounds awful for a girl IMO.  I am getting used to it, but it's just so not feminine.  I think most uni names sound more feminine.
  • Shannon is another one.  And I totally agree.  Stop taking boys names!!  There are strong girls names out there. Use those instead.

  • you took the words right out of my mouth.
  • Yes

As someone named "Toni" I can honestly say you are doing your daughters no favors by giving them a masculine name.

  • I cannot agree with you more. How about Logan and Dylan? Those are BOY names and good ones, so don't steal them for girls. There are already a million and a half awesome girl names and like ten awesome boy names. Seriously!

I also love Ashley and wish it wasn't taken over.

I used to love Elliot and Ryan, but too many people are using them on their girls. Those two particularly annoy me the most.

    TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY.

Except for Ashley and Leslie.  I always wanted to beat up Ashley in Gone With The Wind because he was a pansy-ass schmuck who deserved to be bitchslapped rather than have the affections of Melanie or Scarlett.  And the real life name of the actor who played Ashley was Leslie.  Hated the names ever since.

  • haha. this is hilarious! I totally agree. It is so much harder to name boys than girls. Although, so far that is all I have had to name. Still..really hard!

Elliot is my biggest peeve, with Quinn and Emory (my grandfather's name!) close seconds. My son WILL have the MN Eliot, because he's being named after my favorite poet, but it pisses me off to no end that in ten years it will be considered really "girly." ?

I totally agree.  I love Rowan and Quinn for boys so I hate to see them used for girls.

  • Couldn't agree MORE!

Hate to see names like Ryan, Tyler, and Dylan on girls. They are very classic BOY names. My hubby won't go near any names that have a uni-sex appeal, which really can be limiting. This year I taught a girl named Hunter and knew a girl named Ryan whose sister's name was Dustin. Aaaaahhhhhhh! It needs to stop!
