Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Infant CPR classes

Disclaimer: I promise that this is NOT directed at cajun or anyone else making posts about choking. It's a general statement. :)

Most local fire stations, etc. do free or very cheap CPR classes, which include (most of the time, and if not, you can ask for them to cover it) what to do with a choking infant or child.

I am not trying to be snarky, or a know-it-all, or whatever else I might sound like here, but it kind of surprises me how many have not taken something like this and have very little or incorrect info. on what to do when a baby is choking.

Please take something like this if you haven't. :) There is also a lot of good info. on the internet.

Re: Infant CPR classes

  • Thanks for posting this. I've been wanting to take one, but all I ever find is Red Cross classes that are 8 hours long and make you certified. I just need a quickie, basic class. I'll look into this.

  • Our local hospital offers a class every few months.

  • Our moms group did a certification class, and I am SO glad I took it. It made me feel so much better when we started feeding finger/table food to know that in case anything happened I am ready.

  • DH & I are currently looking into taking one.

I actually feel badly for not having taken one yet.

  • I agree. Best $15 I ever spent. They do them at our hospital and encourage everyone who stays alone with the baby to come. They taught us adult and infant.
  • When Malia had her surgery the hospital gave us an infant CPR kit.
It's called "Infant CPR Anytime" and comes with the doll, a dvd, full-size book, and travel book. You can get them from the American Academy of Pediatrics and also the American Heart Association.
  • Here at the local EMS, the paramedics will teach you for free
