Pregnant after a Loss

is laying on your back really THAT bad??

I was watching Deliver Me last night and there was a woman on the show on strict bed rest to the point where she couldn't even sit up to wash her hair. They commented on how she had been laying on her back for months. I feel like I'm told over and over not to do this, yet this patient laid there forever!! Hmmm...

  • The doctors say that if it's causing harm, you'll get dizzy and switch position anyway.  I lay on my back often.  Every time I've been in the hospital I've been on my back and they never said anything.

  • I wonder this all the time ... I let myself freak out about it,  but don't most people deliver laying down on there backs?  How bad could it really be???
  • Every time I wake up in the middle of the night I am on my back...wondering if that is why I wake up?

  • I lay on my back all the time. My OB said that it isn't till you start actually feeling bad yourself that you do any harm. He said if you can, try to start on your side for sleeping, but if you end up on your back, don't even worry about it. I had a 45 minute ultrasound last week where I was on my back the whole time and felt fine and nobody was concerned!

  • I am one of those people who cant!  It makes me really dizzy!  I do not worry about it too much because I always wake up if I end up there because I feel so bad!
  • I heard a doctor or someone on one of those shows once say it's okay as long as your head is elevated. *shrug*
  • My doc said for short periods of time (a couple hours at a time) its ok.  Its that artery that can get crushed that is the concern I think.  I lay on my back every night before I go to sleep and every morning when I wake up  before I get up, probably about 20 minutes each, and never feel weird or dizzy or anything.  Actually I feel our LO move the most on my back (just hope its not due to me cutting off blood flow!!).

  • My OB nurse said they always have girls calling in scared because they woke up on their backs.  The OB said that you'll feel it if there is something wrong.  She said if you wake up on your back, you are fine and didn't hurt the baby.  Your body will know when it is too much and harmful.  Also, she said that this is an issue when the uterus is really big and heavy- she told me at 15 weeks not to worry about it.  That's what my doc said.

  • I think it's just BETTER to lay on your side (specifically left side).

I mean, think of how thousands upon thousands of years women slept on their backs and all was fine..
