Parenting after a Loss

sweat chloride test

My pedi is very cautious.  And I like that about her.  She is closely following Charlie's growth.  He is such a peanut... 1% in weight and 20% in length.  I think he's just fine - he's a little guy and that's ok with me.  She left me a message a few days ago saying she wanted to see Charlie.  We went in today and talked about his feeding, weight, tootsie roll stools, etc.  She wants to do a blood draw for thyroid, a CBC and a chemistry panel.  I'm fine with this... i understand she wants to rule out a medical problem - i'm a nurse - i get it.   But she also wants to do a sweat chloride test - for cystic fibrosis.  she said there is nothing on his physical exam which points to CF, but that she often orders this test for infants with poor growth.  I"m not freaking out.... charlie is totally healthy.  have any of you gone through all this?

Re: sweat chloride test

  • Have you been tested? Are you a carrier? My ob tested me when I got my bfp.?

Wouldn't testing you guys as being carriers be easier than testing him? ?

DH and I opted out of testing while i was pg bc we don't know of anyone in our families with CF.  i know that if we are both carriers, there is a 25% chance charlie could have it.  but NO ONE in either of our families has ever had an issue.
