CD Inserts

I've seen where people put microfleece liners in the prefolds/fitteds, is this to keep baby feeling dry?  Can I just cut up fleece from the fabric store or is there specific liners I should be using?

Also, when do you start to need to add doublers for more absorbancy?  Any good ones you can recommend?  I've heard hemp or bamboo is good?

Sorry for all the dumb questions but just as I feel I get everything down there is another thing I don't understand.  I won't even go into my confusion of night diapering....LOL :) I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.  I have a lot of doubters IRL so I want to at least pretend to have it all down when LO gets here.

Re: CD Inserts

  • 1) Yes - microfleece keeps baby feeling dry. Suedecloth stays softer wash after wash though, so you might consider trying that too. You can definitely make them yourself :-) Local stores or online stores have fabric you can buy & cut yourself.

    2) Doublers would be necessary to add to the prefolds when baby starts taking long naps or sleeping for extended periods at night. Both hemp & bamboo are trim and absorbent, so great doubler choices.

    3) Night time - you need something very very absorbent if you are going to leave it on the baby all night long. Once baby stops having a bm after nearly every feeding and sleeps longer stretches, you probably won't want to be changing the diaper every few hours. DD stays in hers from about 8 to 8.  Fitteds + wool or double stuffed pockets are favorites. Watch out though - because the ones used overnight will likely be the 1st to develop stink issues. We actually just use disposables overnight.

    HTH! :-)
