maybe a really dumb ? but what do you to with your DC when they are sick?

Ben has hand, foot and mouth disease.  It's awful and it comes with very high fever, the dr. said for maybe 4 or 5 days.  when your children are sick do you still let them play?  watch tv all day?  go on errands?  He's never had a fever for more than 24 hours in his 2.5 years.  If I didn't have a very active into everything 11 month old as well, I know I could spend a lot of time, cuddling with ben, reading books, etc. but I don't have as much time as I would if he was my only one.  I feel guilty putting him front of the TV for most of the day though he doesn't seem like he wants to do anything but lay around.

  • I let them do basically whatever they want when they're sick.  I figure when I'm sick, all I want to do is lay around and watch TV or read a book, so why shouldn't they?  I do not take them out of the house if I can help it especially if they're contagious.  First of all, I don't want to get anyone else sick and secondly (again) I wouldn't want to be running errands and dragged around if I were sick so I try not to do it to them.  I still have and do take them out if I have to - like to pick up their meds or when DD#2 had an ear infection, we still went to DD#1's swimming lessons - things that really couldn't be missed or avoided. I do push the fluids and offer a lot of popsicles and things like that to get those in them.  Still, when they're sick, I just let them do whatever they feel like, eat whatever they feel like and sleep as much as possible. Don't feel guilty.  If he wants to sit around and watch TV, let him.  He'll be back to himself in a few days.

  • When he is really sick he is allowed to watch as much TV as he wants (that is all I want to do when I feel crappy, so why not?) When he is getting over something so is perkier but I don't want to have him out with other kids yet we run errands, play in the backyard, etc.

  • Depends on if she's contagious or how contagious she is. I asked the pedi and she said just keep her away from other kids and let her do what she wants as far as her level of activity. So I let her play in the backyard or we'll even go to the park if nobody's there and she's not super contagious. I do let her watch as much tv as she wants when sick.

  • I will let Christopher watch as much tv as he wants and I try to bribe him to eat with all of his favorite snacks and smoothies.
  • Jude was very sick all last week (double ear infection, high fever, about 10 febrile seizures, etc) and I let him do whatever the heck he wanted!  We had the tv on all day long and snuggled most of the day!  He was hardly eating so I even let him have a cupcake for breakfast one morning.  When I'm sick, I just want to lay down and watch tv, so I've always assumed that's what he'd prefer to do, too!  I make a comfy spot with lots of pillows and blankets and he loves it.

  • I let them do whatever they want but don't take them out of the house if I can help it.  If they want to lay around and watch tv fine... if they want to play in the house that is fine too.
  • Noggin is on my tv right now! Rhayna is sick and she just wants to sit in the recliner, cuddled up and watch TV - so that's what she's doing!
