What does your ped cost?

I'm kinda "investigating" some potential fraud, that my ped office has been doing.

If you have a second to check insurance/bills and let me know some charges, I would most appreciate it.

1. Well-Visit charges? (set checkups like 1 year, etc.)

2. cost for vaccines?

3, what it cost for you to come back and have ears checked post-ear infection?

And please tell me if you've heard of this:

4. I take her in for her year checkup, i.e. "well baby." I'm charged one standard fee. Then I say "I think she has an ear infection" and then I'm charged for a "sick baby" visit, the same hundred something the well-baby visit is, now doubling the fees owed.

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What does your ped cost?

  • Well, I just pay a $25 co-pay, so my memory of these charges is a little fuzzy, but here's what I remember:

    1. Well Visit = $175

    2. $750 to over $1,000 depending on the vaccines

    3. DD's never had an ear infection

    4. wouldn't surprise me in the least if the pedi did this.  I'm not saying it's right...

  • Hmmm, that sounds shady to essentially charge you twice. We have a $15 co-pay and then get a bill for the balance after our insurance pays. Her 15 month well check (where she received one vaccine) cost $76. Her 12 month appt (where she got two vaccines) was $115. We've only taken her one for a sick visit and the bill was $50ish.?

  • I meant to say, only the "full price" cost, before insurance, does me any good. (but thanks!)

  • The only one I can really day anything on is #4.  When you bring something up that is not part of the standard visit, the coding changes and so does the cost.  I know this because my OB/GYN has that as part of their annual paperwork.
  • Honestly, I don't really know how much anything costs because I never get an EOB or anything. But as to your last point, it does not surprise me in the least that they are charging twice. The way that most pedi's work is that there is an allotted time set aside for well visits. If at the same time you have "sick" issues, then they may have to go outside of that allotted time for a more thorough exam as well as the additional paperwork involved in this. Doesn't sound shady to me at all.
