What should I look for in a high chair?

I'm having a hard time getting past the way it looks to consider comfort, ease of use, etc. I really like the wood ones because it will match my kitchen, but what else should I take into consideration? Anything you love or hate about your high chair?

  • We just got a Svan high chair - kinda spendy but I love it!  It's great because it converts to a toddler chair and then a youth chair (tray comes off, seat guard comes off, seat height adjusts), so we'll never need a booster and he can use it for years.  It's also not huge and looks like real furniture.  There is a plastic tray guard that snaps off to wash and the cushions come off and are machine washable.  Perfect all around!

  • we got the graco classic wood highchair and love it.  the fabric is soft (not plastic-y) but wipes clean easily.  the tray has a removable plastic cover that is easy to rinse off in the sink.  plus it matches our dining room table!

  • I hate my Chicco Polly high chair because the tray is so difficult to put on. I would not recommend that one.

  • We have a chicco and I love it. But it has the more soft fabric not the plastic kind. But I love love love the fisher price one my mom bought for her house. It is actually easier to use, IMO, and really easy to clean. We already had to throw the cover in the wash, because DS had an accident and the whole thing cleaned up really well and things wipe of the fabric real easy. Plus the fabric is super soft. Yeah it looks real kidish, but after all it is a high chair.

  • I have a Combi Hero in Chili and really like it.  The tray's easy to clean, the seatback reclines and the pad is cushy and can go in the washer.  The seat also lifts off the legs so it can be used as a booster later on.
