Babies are measuring ahead of schedule

Baby A is already 2 lbs, Baby B is 1 lb 12 oz.  Dr. said that's ahead of where a singleton would be at this point.  (we're sure of due date, had an iui)

I'm very excited that they are big and healthy. But I also had my GD test today and hoping that them being big isn't a sign of a problem. I don't know much about GD, other than that I've heard it can lead to a big baby, but I'm guessing that's not until later on, right?  The doc. said that from this point on is when twins sometimes don't keep up in size comparison with the singletons, but that you never know.

Did your babies measure ahead for part or all of the pregnancy?  Just curious. I can't help but get more and more anxious to meet these babies, they did the 4d u/s today and each time they look even cuter.

Re: Babies are measuring ahead of schedule

  • I'm sure everything is fine!  Those weights dont sound much bigger than what my babies measured at that point.  Remember that those measurements can be off.  Typically they over estimate how big the babies are.  My babies always measured within 2 oz of each other, and Parker ended up being 1 lb 7 oz bigger than his sister. they definately over estimated my DD, at 32 wks they said she was over 5 lbs, and when she was born 5 wks later she was only 5lbs 7 oz.

  • My babies always measured ahead. I was borderline for GD with both of my pregnancies - single and twin. My first DD was 9lbs 4oz. The twins were 7lbs 6oz and 7lbs 8oz. I never had any real issues with the GD - my babies were just big and healthy. Good luck!

  • My ultrasound at 26 weeks 1 day was approximately the same sizes as your babies, Baby A 2 lbs. and Baby B measured 1 lbs 13 oz. so only an ounce off of yours and there is only a few days diffrence, I know every case is diffrent, but just to give you an example to compare seems we must be on track.  My peri did not give my any indication that the babies were "too big" for my weeks (if she was concerned she would of told me) I'm having my GD test done on Monday (June 29) I hope I pass!  Keep us posted to let us know how you made out on your test :)

  • Mine have measured ahead for a singleton the whole time too. And instead of falling behind they are still going up in percentile at every ultrasound. They were 69th percentile at 29 weeks, 3 pounds, 4 ounces and 3 pounds, 5 ounces. I have no idea if they will slow down at some point or if they will end up being big babies! I passed my one hour glucose test, so GD is not a factor.

  • That's about where my boys were at that age.  I did have GD, but because I had 2, they came early anyway, so they didn't get too big (only 4 lbs each when they were born - 2mos. early).  The reason they test for GD now is so that if you have it (it's more common with multiple pregnancies) you can take steps so that your babies don't get too big - watching your diet, etc.  Honestly, although pricking my finger stunk, the diet was NOT bad - I really just had to eat smaller meals more frequently - whcih is what I wanted to do anyway because food didn't fit in my stomach too well!
