did you get footprints from hospital?

we delivered at Rex and DH says he never saw them do footprints, nor did we get any. do they still do them?

if so, think we can request a copy?
if not, i'd like to make some. how should i do it? finger paint?

(Jude is just so tiny and cute and i want to keep every little thing i can!)

  • We didn't get ours either but we delivered at WakeMed Cary. I would love to know if we can order them. He has already grown so much!

  • PS.

We tried finger paint and it didn't work out so well. GL!

  • No I didn't get any, I think that's sad. In my baby book I have a cute birth certificate with my foot prints and the hospital seal, I was expecting to get something similar. We just got a carbon copy of his birth certificate and no footprints. Boo.

  • From my understanding the hospitals don't do footprints anymore (I know Rex does not).  They are not needed anymore legally as part of birth certificates so hospitals no longer do them.  You'd need to do it yourself at home.

  • hmm.

i thought of using acrylic paint. i have some. it washes right off. but i'd have to make DH help me to make sure we kept his hands away from his mouth. (i'd try to make hand & footprints)
i can just picture us holding a squirming baby with paint all over the place!

  • They did them at our hospital.  Not on the legal certificate, but they do a prettier one for a keepsake with prints at the bottom.

They do footprint/handprint things at daycare all the time, but I have no idea what kind of paint they use.  It doesn't show alot of detail though.

  • Our hospital does them as part of the new parent gift bag. ?They frame them for you - it is actually a really nice gesture and I am glad we have them. ?We have copies of both girls and it is neat to see how different their feet are (K was short and chubby, C was long and skinny).?

I would have loved if Rex did a keepsake one.  That would have been so cute to have.  I hate that our baby book is missing that but I was so exhausted the first month or so that I never got around to doing it myself.

It is nice to have.  They didn't even fill out the info, so I need to find someone with really pretty writing to do it.  They left it blank except for the prints.  I want to frame it and put it in the nursery.  You'd think after 17 months I'd have done this by now.

  • WM Raleigh didn't do it, but I asked one of the nurses, she found a stamp pad, and we did them on plain ol' white paper.

BTW, I bought washable non-toxic poster paint at WalMart and used it for DD's Fathers Day gift (only did footprints though, couldn't imagine doing her hands).  It took about 20 tries, but we got it!

I may have to get some of this to do DC#2 footprints -- although I'll feel bad for not having Natalie's.

  • We delivered at the same hospital mikey did, and they did them there.  If I remember correctly, they asked if we had anything special that we wanted them stamped onto and we did not (the last thing on my mind 10 minutes after delivering!), but they did do them on their own paper.

  • We delivered at Rex and they did not do them. I did, however, got to Michael's and get some washable black ink and stamped them myself, with the help of my mother, in her baby book. I was disappointed too.

That is soo cool Evans, I really wish they would have done that at Rex.
