Okay, so, would you call CPS?

Re: Okay, so, would you call CPS?

  • You know, I really think you need to call the police as well as CPS.  Believe me, CPS can work slowly.  Most police departments should work with CPS if there is a child involved, but unfortunately that does not always happen, so I'd call both agencies.  Also, CPS sometimes screens out calls that are based upon here-say, which your call would be.  It's not a perfect system by any means, which is why I'm recommending that you call both places.  Here's to hoping that child gets help.

  • I'm actually a CPS Social Worker and I definately recommend calling CPS immediately.  You can report any information you have even if it is hear say.  Most States work under the rule that if the information is true and it would constitue a dangerous situation for the child it is accepted.  This situation in my agency would be considered injurious environment for the child as well as lack of supervision. A good social worker will demand counseling.  you can remain annonymous when you report but be specific about everything you know not only about this situation but also about the family in general.  good luck and i wish the best for this child and your family.

  • I would call.  I use to work with very very troubled teenage boys and harming animals is a HUGE red flag.  It makes me very sad to hear that this one is only 2.  He needs some guidance in the right direction since it sounds like his parents are not going to do it.  I am so sorry your family is in this situation.

    Indifferent

That child needs help now.  Don't most serial killers start by hurting animals.

    Call CPS!

    Yes

I'd call.  Didn't Jeffrey Dahmer do that kind  of stuff as a child?

Um yes, exactly. The #1 predictor of a serial killer is torturing animals as a child. Think Jeffrey Dahmer and all the rest of the psycho killers. Call the police first, and then CPS right now!

I found out that he killed their kitten. Not only that, but he didn't succeed until the 3rd time he tried. First, he tried to light it on fire with carcoal and lighter fluid. Next, he put it in the dryer. Finally, he drowned it in the bathtub and threw it in the outside garbage can.

I fell so bad for that poor little kitten - it makes me sick. But also, how can a 2 year old get a hold of carcoal and lighter fluid? How can he run the bath tub and go outside without anyone knowing what he is doing?

for those reasons, yes.  something is definitely wrong in that house.

Have you spoken with the parents? Do they not care?

I'd get the name of a really good child psychologist and give it to the parents first. They HAVE to know this behavior is NOT right!

I did not speak to them about it, only my aunt (the mother's step-mom). Apparently they don't think it is that big of a deal. DH and I were telling my aunt that he should see a psychologist. She agreed, but said that the mother didn't think so.

In the words of David Chapelle in the Wayne Brady sketch "Run, [bleep]!  Run fo' yo' life! Go get help!"  The child committed a crime...yes you should absolutely report it. Period, end of discussion.  I'd like to know exactly how he got a chance at a second and third attempt.  If they knew about the first two, what exactly were they doing the third time around?  Either this is MUD, or you're about to be an accessory after the fact to animal cruelty.

  • Call call call. That behaviour is very scary.
  • I would most definately call. That type of behavior is sociopathic and will most likely only escalate as he gets older, by killing other small animals then onto worse. Kid needs help.
