Maternity leave in the winter

My maternity leave is going to be in Dec, Jan and Feb.  I am getting a little bit anxious about it landing on the dead of winter.  Has anyone been off in these months before or have some ideas of what to do with a newborn during this time so I don't get cabin fever?  Ohhhh lovely Minnesota winters....:)

Re: Maternity leave in the winter

  • Congrats!  This is my first pregnancy and I am due in August but I was thinking of stuff to do in the winter and you can always walk around the different malls.  That is something to get you moving and get out of the house.

Just curious...but did you go to Hopkins High School?  If so I think we graduated together.  If you don't want to respond on the board, feel free to PM me!

  • I was a feb/mar/ap maternity leave momma but if you remember...we had snow until may this year so I was somewhat in your situation. Big Smile

I did a lot of shop-walking...I went to a bunch of malls and just looked. I was in a rough situation because I couldn't drive for three weeks so that was torture but my DH and mom tried to bring me places any chance they could.

I also went downtown and walked the skyways. If you aren't down there often it's kind of fun to look around and see all the nifty shops.

  • I had Olivia on January 2...so I was off all of January and February. Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Winter delivery isn't so great for weight loss...but not having to go to work in the dead of winter, is GREAT. I thought I would go stir crazy and have serious cabin fever, but In those first few weeks, besides some shopping trips and a couple family get togethers...I just wanted to relax and spend time with her. I caught up on some shows, spent the days holding and talking to her, and that was about it. Maybe you'll be the same way.

  • The Galleria in Edina would be a great place to go!  They have a covered parking section running underneath the mall on the east side and they have wonderful private family restrooms that have a changing table and nice gliders where you can sit and nurse.  You can eat at Good Earth, browse Barnes & Noble and Pottery Barn Kids.  Not to mention that's where Creative Kids Stuff is located, which is an awesome store!
  • ha, I am so lost....what does PM mean?

  • PM= private message....that way no one else gets to see your reply.

  • I was on leave last winter and it was nice to get out to the malls, MOA is great because they have a lot of elevators, also the skyways downtown, especially on a Sat or Sun when it's really quiet down there was nice.

  • Also, if you decide to mall walk and there is a motherhood maternity you can stop in there and breastfeed.
  • The Burnsville center(and I'm sure others) have little classes for moms where you can work out in the mall(nothing to strenuous) with your baby.
