Sore calf muscles

My calf muscles are killing me today. I feel like I hiked up a mountain or something they are so sore. It's wierd though because I didn't do anything that would cause them to be sore. I haven't really done anything at all. Any suggestions on how to relieve the soreness? They aren't extremely painful but enough to make me cringe whenever I get up and to walk funky.

Stretch them and drink LOTS of water. You probably are getting charlie horses, did you wake up to a really tight pain in your calf?

  • I have to stretch mine repeatedly throughout the day - it's definitely an annoyance.

Drink as much water as you can - it'll help.

  • Have you been having charlie horses/leg cramps at night?  Sometimes my calves will hurt the next day after I have a bad leg cramp.

Whatever you do, don't massage your calves... the instructor at our birthing class told us this -- apparently, PG women have an insanely high risk for blood clots in the calves!

I have this same problem. After a bad charlie horse, it takes like 4 days before my calf muscle feels normal again. All I can think of doing to make it better is stretching out the muscle and walking.

  • Mine starting hurting me just today also. I'm guessing it was from sitting on floor last night and getting up a few times. If that's it, I'm sooooooo out of shape and dread working out after baby.

I haven't been getting any Charlie Horses through the night but just woke up sore. I will definitely start pushing more fluids and see if that helps.

  • My soreness is also from the insanely painful charlie horses I've been having at night.  I've only gotten a few, but my calf seriously hurts for like 2 days straight after I have one.

  • This happened to me about a week ago.  I think it was from playing the Wii fit and doing some sort of exercise that my calfs weren't used to doing.  You may have done some little thing that strained them - even if it doesn't seem like it.  I just stretched them out several times during the day and the soreness went away in about 2 days.

  • Mine also hurt quite a bit I have started stretching every morning and every night before bed. Simple stretches, and it really makes a difference!
