So we started nicholas on cereal just after he was 4 months old. We started with rice and have moved onto oatmeal. he seems to like the oatmeal better and eats it really well (it took him a week or so to get the hang of eating from the spoon!).
the past few days, he has been extra gassy and from thursday mid-day to saturday afternoon didn't poop at all, which wasn't normal for him. i'm thinking that since he is eating more cereal, it has affected his digestive system a bit, which makes sense. he did go again yesterday...but still has been so gassy.
so, there is a question here somewhere...did anyone else notice changes in pooping patterns when their babies started to eat solids? did it just work itself out?
Re: ? for moms re: solids
oh yeah, it totally changes their little tummies and their poop.
marion was on avocado first and that wasn't such a big change for her system, thanks to all the fat in it. but when we added in cereal, we had a lot of poop problems.
we started giving her prunes as soon as we noticed her struggling to poop. she didn't like them for a month or so mixed with her food, so we just put a tablespoon or two in a bottle each day and shook it up really well and she never noticed it. (we called those her chocolate milk bottles, lol.) the prunes helped everything get back to normal.
also, i'm not sure what brand you are using, but our favorite is the happy babies kind (you can buy it at target.) they have probiotics in their cereals which helps a lot with the digestive issues.

i'm totally going to stop by target today and pick up that brand of cereal. we've just been using the gerber brand of cereal.
i was thinking that maybe a prune type of food, or just other foods besides cereal could help, but our pedi recommends waiting to start other foods until they are six months old. i know so many people start other foods before then with no problems so i might have to do that if this continues.
I had the same issues with Gracie. Very gassy and pooping issues. Whenever I noticed she had not pooped for a day I would give her some prunes and that always seemed to work. The gassiness seemed to ease its way out...I think her body just got used to it.
