bottles with liners?

I am just beginning to try to understand baby bottles. Why would one get a bottle that doesn't use lines versus one that does, or vice versa?

Re: bottles with liners?

  • Bottles are pretty much a preference thing.  But many don't use the ones with the liners as they aren't really the green way to go and honestly washing bottles isn't that big of a deal I think I have about 6 bottles that we alternate around.  I would suggest not going for the avent bottles, they leak something horrid and are now the only ones ds will use!  The big thing with bottles is to make sure they are bpa free.

  • Ella isn't a huge bottle fan, in fact she is just now interested in them. But for her and my ds we used Playtex bottles.

Reasons why I like the liner -

    BPA free,

it collapses as the baby drinks so there isn't as much air in the bottle (you push any excess air out before they start drinking),

You can get 8oz bottles and 4 oz liners, so no need for different size bottles

Since the bottle is just a holder for the liner, you don't have to wash it inbetween each use, just put a new liner in and change the nipple. I usually will use a bottle/ring twice and then toss in the dishwasher.

You can pump straight into a bag, freeze, thaw and use that same bag in the bottle.

I think I prefer the liners over the drop ins, but I have a ton of drop ins that I am going through.

Ditto all of this!  :)  For me the biggest selling point is being able to reuse the bottle housing a few times before washing.  Our dishwasher usually seems full of bottles as it is, I can't imagine having to wash every bottle each time we use it!   The nipples/rings don't take up as much room to wash.  We get a generic liner at Fred Meyer's, it's cheaper than the Playtex kind and holds a little more IMO.

  • We use the Target liners with Playtex drop-ins. I love how they collapse when she's drinking and how easy it is to toss it and put a new liner in.

The Walgreens brand liners are the worst though - they always leak on me.
