This is from Friday.
Coworker A has an 18 month old son who was born at 25.5 weeks due to a placenta issue (I think an abruption but she's never specifically stated that). He's doing very well now but still (as expected) has delays.
Coworker B delivered a healthy, chunky 8+ pound baby at 38 weeks but has been telling everyone for months that he was born "premature" and how much of a struggle she'd had with his "prematurity" (her reasoning is that he was 2 weeks premature b/c 40w is full term...uhhh, what?)
Coworker B ran into Coworker A in the hallway and told A that she knows "all about preemies, since she has one" and that, in the future, Coworker A will probably have a second preemie because her body "obviously had some issues".
Oh, and the only reason Coworker B's baby was "such a big preemie" was that she ate a tub of ice cream every day during her pregnancy, and maybe if Coworker A does the same next time, her preemie will avoid "ridiculous amounts" of NICU time.
Huge round of applause to Coworker A for NOT stabbing coworker B.
Re: People say the stupidest things...
I think if I were coworker A, I would have killed coworker B and buried her out back. Mine were born at 37 and 2 and I cannot STAND when people refer to them as preemies. 1) They're not since 37 weeks is full term. 2) Calling my guys preemies, who were born perfectly healthy and just a little small, is such a slap in the face to people who really did have preemies and had to go through a lot of struggles.
I'm mad FOR coworker A.
