people, especially relatives, question everything you do about parenting?
ugh!
I know they mean well and are trying to help, but really. I'm fully capable.
Here's my story from today.
Andrew was sleeping when they arrived. I heard him stirring, so I went to check on him. He'd refluxed/puked in his sleep and was laying in it etc, obviously uncomfortable so it woke him up.
So I picked him up to soothe him back to sleep. He is sucking his thumb because he's also trying to soothe himself back to sleep.
My mom says, "look, he's hungry".
Me: "No, he's tired, he's trying to put himself back to sleep. He used to suck on his fist when he was hungry but now he does it when he's trying to soothe himself."
Mom: "But he's sucking his hand. How long has it been since he ate?"
Me: "2 hours. He'd just fall asleep when his reflux woke him up. He's tired."
Grandma: "Don't you think his Prilosec makes his reflux worse?" (Insinuating he doesn't need it since he's older now.) "When can he stop taking it?"
*sigh*
Re: don't you hate it when...
((hugs))
While on our road trip last weekend I was working on getting Eli down for a nap. I picked him up to start his pre-nap routine. I was giving him his lovey and his paci and my mom says, "Just put him in his crib." She obviously knows Eli better than I do. He of course cried when I laid him down because he wasn't quite ready to be put down yet. I totally rolled my eyes at her when she said that and dropped his lovey and paci right where I was. She then said, "Don't get mad at me."
whatev, mom....
I'm sorry, Kathy
This is the biggest reason I'm glad we don't live near our parents. Love them, appreciate their support, but I would *not* be able to handle comments like that - as innocent as they are. This is clearly evidenced by my breakdown yesterday about all the phone calls and pregnancy comments.
Yep! My mom does this.
Me: It's lunch time
Mom: She's happily playing, she doesn't act hungry...
OR
Mom: I think she needs to nurse, she keeps chewing on her fingers.
Me: We just did that an hour ago.
Mom: Maybe you should try some formula.
Can't win for trying, I just nod and smile.
