How do you/would you pronounce this name? I know there's a "right" way, I'm just curious what most people would think. I HATED it when I thought I knew how to pronounce it, then loved it when I learned I was wrong and was told the real pronunciation. DH said it's growing on him, but he's worried it will always be pronounced wrong. I'm worried about this too so I wanted to see what you thought...
(PS I love unique names, as in not many other children have that as a name. Not a big fan of traditional, classic, or popular names. I figured this was pretty "normal" and not too weird.)
Re: Calliope
Yeah, that's technically wrong (though I'm sure people pronounce it that way). That's how I was saying it originally and didn't like.
I didn't realize you had your baby already! Congrats!
This is how I thought it was pronounced until a post on here set me straight about it, plus Grey's Anatomy. I pronounce it now Cuh-lie-uh-pea. Sorry I'm not good at figuring out how to type it phonetically. I really like it though.
Thanks, she's already three weeks... time flies with a newborn! It's crazy.
Love Calliope now that I know how to pronounce. (Sidenote: Love Evangeline too!)
Haha, this was when I started liking the name!
DH and I both love Callie, but our last name is Riley and we thought we should probably come up with a longer name and just NN her Callie. Calliope was always suggested but I didn't like Ca-Lee-Oh-Pay. But when I heard it on Grey's I REALLY liked it!

I have yet to read this and now I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't. Is she slutty?
Well, it's kind of a crazy book. The main character (Calliope) is inbred, and intersexed. S/he goes through a lot of crazy things, and later decides to live life as a man (Cal). It's a good story, and really enlightening, but like I said, that's my only association with the name so it's what I think of when I see it.
Thanks! I remember when you first posted about using the name Adelaide, which I absolutely love. It was a nice surprise to actually see her in your sig. You have two beautiful girls.
I love this name, too--if we have a girl, there's a good chance she'll be a Callie (Calliope or Callista). It's a Greek name--in mythology, she was one of the muses. The Greek pronounciation is Cah-lie-oh-pea.
That's the pronunciation I like. I think it's beautiful, but also think of Middle Sex.
the Greek pronunciation is best. I've liked it since Days of Our Lives character Calliope Bradford was on air 20 years ago.
It is also some sort of circus thing, like a carousel or something...
