How many ounces do you put in oatmeal?

If you mix your own oatmeal, how many ounces of water/milk do you mix it in? I have been using 3 ounces and then adding oatmeal to make it thick, but I think I'm giving DS too much..

Re: How many ounces do you put in oatmeal?

  • I pour the oatmeal first, but I don't measure it so I don't know how much I'm using...however, the amount I use is mixed with ~1.5-2oz of formula for a smooth, slightly lumpy consistency.  3oz of formula seems like a lot to me, but if your DS eats it all it's probably okay.  If your DS is anything like mine, he'll let you know when he's done eating...clearly!

I measure about 1 1/2 TBSP then mix with 1.5 - 2 oz formula.  I have a medicine measuring cup from when DS was in the hospital that they had us use to add cereal to his bottles. I measure a scoop and a half.  1 scoop = 1 TBSP
  • I use jar purees which are way too runny, so now I add 3-4 tbsp of oatmeal to 1 4oz jar of purees... makes it nice and thick for him. If I am just doing it with water/milk, I do a 1 to 1 tbsp ratio and then thicken or water down as needed.

When I started though, we did a 1 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon ration.
