Baby Monitors

I apologize, I know I asked about this months ago but I can't find the original post so I'm going to post it again.  What baby monitor do you use and why do you like it?  I'm torn between a video monitor or just a regular one.  Thanks ladies!

Re: Baby Monitors

  • We LOVE our Summer hand held video monitor.  It has been really helpful to see Ethan to help determine whether he's just making sleep noises and trying to put himself back to sleep, lost his pacifier, or is truly awake.  It was also great when he was tiny and napped in the swing.  I could go upstairs to shower and get ready while still able to check on him.  It was nice to see if he was still sleeping (he usually just woke up and hung out before crying) w/o having to run back downstairs.

  • We have a First Years one, but they don't make it anymore. I read the reviews on BRU and went with that one. I think it's fine. Works outside, which was important. And it was clear, but then we started using white noise, so we added our own static!

We didn't see the need for a video monitor. At points I thought it would have been handy, like when we were sleep training, to see if he was sleeping or not, but I really don't see the need to spend the money on one. And based upon reports on the toddler boards, they don't seem to last as long as non-video monitors.

  • We love our Sony Baby Call monitor.  It was recommended by Baby Bargains as one with low interference.  It also has a "voice activiated" function so you don't have to listen to fuzz on the monitor all night long.  You can get it with either one or two receivers.

  • We have the Sony Baby Call also, it was relatively inexpensive and it works great.  The receiver has been dropped numerous times and it still works with no problems.  We only got one receiver with ours, but then again we never found the need for a second one either.

  • We have the Sony Baby Call as well and I've been really happy with it. That being said, I agree with Christina. At times I think a video monitor would be really helpful to tell if she's just making sleep noises or if she's awake. I probably won't spend the extra $ now for a video monitor, but if I had to do it again, I would have registered for one.
  • We also have the Sony Baby Call and love it.  The voice activated feature is awesome, no static.  We had another brand and returned it because the static would've kept me up all night.

I think there are times when a video monitor would come in handy, and I'm actually thinking of getting one now, but I'm not sure if its worth it.

  • I LOVE the Summer Handheld Video monitor! As a matter of a fact I just bought another for the new baby. I highly recommend it!

  • Ours is the Graco UltraClear II 49 MHz Baby Monitor With Nightlight https://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4433231

We keep the main one in the nursery and then one receiver in our bedroom and one downstairs.  They can be plugged in or run on batteries if you want/need to move them around.  This monitor works perfectly for our small house.  I especially like the light display - when baby cries (or even hiccups in our case) there are red lights that light up on the monitor.  The louder the noise, the more lights will light up.  It's helpful if you're not sure you actually heard a noise or if you're not sure if it's the baby or the cats, haha.  If you see lights, you know it's the baby.

  • We also have the Sony Baby Call. I really like the voice activated option and like PP we've never had and problems with static (or anything else).

We have the Graco iVibe Monitor and really like it.  It's digital, so very little interference, tiny recieving unit, and it vibrates, so if you're doing something noisy or have noisy guests over, you can feel it instead of just hearing or seeing the lights light up.

Our house is small with one floor living, so we only use the monitor during the day and when she's down for the night before we go to bed.  We sleep with her door and our door open and we can hear her just fine.

I don't regret not getting the video monitor.
