I'm looking for a babysitter through an on-line caregiver website. It irritates me to no end when I get a reply that is riddled with misspellings and typos. I spent an hour today (well, my toddler had something to do with that) tailoring a description of what I was looking for- but I took the time to make sure I had everything included in there, and that there were no typos, etc. It's just the way I am, but I'd be damn sure if I was applying for a position to double and thrice check an email for a potential job. This was the email:
That sounds like fun.. i use to work at a daycare so i can do all at you ask.. Also i have a sibe huskey at home so i love pets..
For the night and weekend i wouldnt mind.. it would be Nice if maybe we can to those on nights that my husband has duty or is out to sea.. If not then anytime would work..
I cant wait to hear back from you..
Thank you
I get turned off by this and most likely will not hire this person. Too harsh? It just gets under my skin that someone wouldn't take the extra time to make the email perfect....it makes me think, well, will they not take the extra time with my child?
Re: Would this annoy you?
You are being waaaay to harsh. Do you have any idea how hard it is to hit the shift key to make a capital i????? Not to mention that the ' key is a very far stretch for the average pinky.
Yikes!
I agree with you. I think it's very indicative of a sloppy person when they can't even use the correct keys to have a correct email.
I think this is an age thing, though. The youngsters don't seem to care that they're missing random punctuation throughout. Maybe we're just old farts.
Me with my littlest.
Honestly?
I don't think that someone's grammatical skill has anything to do with how well they can care for a child.
I had an ad out there for a part time nanny when I was working at home after I had Ashlyn. I got TONS of responses like that. I couldn't hire anyone who can't spell check.
I ended up using my MIL.
This.
Yes, it would annoy me. The person could be great with kids, but the lack of attention to detail makes her look careless.
Maybe if I didn't work in the business world, I would feel differently, but I think that it is important to project yourself in a professional manner with appropriate language, spelling, grammar, etc. when you are attempting to get a job (of any type).
