3rd Trimester

Interesting (but comfy) sleep position...

So, I was sceptical, but our childbirth instructor showed us this on the first night, and I have actually found it to be SO comfortable. Especially try it if you are a stomach sleeper.

I use a body pillow, but you can use two pillows for the same effect. So, lie on your side like normal, and put your top leg at almost a 90 degree angle over the leg pillow (keep the bottom leg straight down the bed, or nearly straight). Hug the pillow with your right arm, and shift your body over so that you are almost face down. You can put your bottom arm behind you (sounds uncomfortable, but remember that you are almost lying on your stomach). If you are using a body pillow, this keeps your belly supported, and since you are lying at kind of a 45 degree angle, you aren't putting pressure on your belly or the baby.

I can't sleep all night this way, but I've found that in the early morning hours when I have a tendency to roll onto my back, this really makes me sleep like a ROCK for about 3-4 hours. Hope it works for some of you!

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.

Re: Interesting (but comfy) sleep position...

  • I've been sleeping like this since I couldn't sleep on my belly anymore.  It's the only way I'm comfortable, except I raise my bottom arm so it's under my pillow.

  • I like this one too! It didn't sound comfy at first, especially about your bottom arm being behind you, but it's great!
  • This is how I sleep every night.  I only wake up for a potty break and to flip over becuase my hips hurt if I lay on one side too long.  Smile
  • I love sleeping this way as I was an exclusive stomach sleeper pre-pregnancy.  I agree with PP about the bottom arm under pillow but it is really comfortable.
  • yea our bradley instructor showed us this and its really helped me get better sleep. i used to sleep on my stomach all the time so its the only way i can sleep with this belly now

I was a stomach sleeper pre-pregnancy too, so this is pretty much how I always sleep now.
