Long story short, my company used to be an affliate of Indiana University and we're getting ready to move into the IU system on July 1. However, my service date with the affliate is not rolling over, so I'm not eligible for FMLA and have to take a leave of absence instead.
Blah.
I do have 6 weeks + 3 days of vacation left, so I'll get paid for that at the end of this month. For some reason I'm slightly more nervous about the leave, when I thought I should be more comfortable.
I do
my new HR contact though....she's going to be an AWESOME resource and support for being a working mother.
Re: leave of absence/fmla
Boo! The red-tape at IU (FMLA and otherwise) drives me crazy. There are plenty of huge benefits for working for such a large "company" but this definitely isn't one of them.
That's awesome that you have so much vacation saved up. I only managed to save about 4 weeks over the last 4 years so I am going to have quite a lot of time off unpaid.
Gah, I'm so tired of the red tape. I feel like we've just been jumping through hoop after hoop.
For some reason I'm really irrationally pissed that my service date is not rolling over. The whooping 3 years...it's not like I've worked for the affliate for 15. Really the only benefit I can see is that when I hit 5 years, my vacation time increases. And we're only planning to stay a year after that anyway.
I do love the new health insurance policies though! At least the prices. We received similar benefits as affliates, but our health insurance cost just a bit more. Now watch, I just haven't found the red tape there yet
BOO!! That stinks, Kelley.
I got a pit in my stomach when I saw the title of your post because it seems like when it comes to leave/FMLA, there are always unexpected complications. I learned on my last day of work (last Friday) that there was paperwork I needed to submit much earlier. Luckily they're working with me but for half a day I didn't think I was eligible for ANY leave other than vacation.
