The Montessori school we visited said that rather than changing toddlers on a change table, they took them to the bathroom and changed them standing up, so they would associate diaper changing with bathroom functions etc... The lady said the kids really get into it and eventually want to "assist" in the diaper changes, which leads to them understanding that they have to take the diaper off and put a new on e on, and eventually that the peeing or pooping should be done in the bathroom and of course, ultimately become potty trained.
I thought this was a novel idea, and decided to try changing DD standing up in the bathroom. I managed to get the diaper over one buttcheek, and it was fastened higher on one side than the other. And of course, DD screamed through the entire ordeal.
Re: Any tips for standing diaper changes?
LMAO!
Nice try, though!!
How do pull-ups compare price wise? I haven't shopped them at all yet.
I haven't heard about doing this at a school. But I can say that my LO won't let me put him on the changing table anymore....he just jumps up. So, I have to change him standing up most of the time.
I put the diaper on starting in the back, through the legs to the front....quickly. Then I just pull the tabs around. If you keep your hand on the waist, it will sort of hold the diaper up and then you can pull the tabs around. Once you've got 1 tab, then the other can be fastened easily.
I don't know...that's how i do it. HTH
We just started using them about a month ago so I'm not completely up on the good prices but I got a jumbo pack at Wally World yesterday for $9 I think and I had $1 off coupon. I've also bought the store brand from Walmart and Cottontails and I can't remember the price but I do remember thinking it was better than regular diapers (we were using Pampers).
The one thing I noticed is that I seem to be changing DS more often now because I'm taking him to the potty every hour or so and if he's wet I change him. With regular diapers I only changed every 2 to 3 hours unless he was soaked or poopy. As he gets better, I think I'll see a trade off because he'll be going more and more in the potty and messing up less of the diapers.
Ditto. I often change diapers while they are standing -- especially if we are in a public bathroom. The poop ones are tough, but a wet diaper is easy to change standing up.
