Long vent ahead. Sorry.
I don't usually swear but I have to get this out. I posted this on my local board as well so maybe 2 vents will make me feel better. LOL
Work gave me a new laptop earlier this year. Ever since I got it, it never starts on the first try. Averages 3-8 tries just to get it to start. And just randomly freezes or reboots all on it's own. I've given it to them numerous times to try to fix but they never could.
Keep in mind, the warranty date on this thing is in 2011 - so plenty of time to just replace it. For FREE.
So what happens? Yesterday I was in the middle of using it and it does it's random self-reboot. Except this time - nothing. Get a message saying there's no boot setup in the hard drive or something like that. Crap.
Call Helpdesk, they come get it and there's nothing they can do. It's dead. Gone. Along with all my work files (11 years worth), my pictures, all the work I've done around daycare research, etc... My IVF stuff, belly pics, pics of us, our vacations, my family, my cat who died last year. Everything. Just gone.
I know it's my fault for having personal stuff on there, but I had been in the process of transferring it over lately, just hadn't finished. It's always just easier to do things at work (call places, upload pics,etc...) while you're working. So they were on here. Again, my fault, I know and I accept that. And I know they shouldn't have to save my personal stuff, but work stuff also sucks to lose.
OMG I am so pissed I just want to cry. I just want to go home (pathetic, I know). WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST GET ME A REPLACEMENT SOONER AND I WOULDN'T BE IN THIS POSITION! Fuuuuuuuck!
Good things there's a GTG tonight w/ my locals.
OK, vent over. Thanks for listening.

The only way that all your data is lost is if your hard drive is completely broken. I don't think that's the case. There was a link to a piece of equipment that can get all your data off if the hard drive is still functional.
Maybe Nikki has it.
oh man- that sucks!! they can't recover anything?!
didn't this just happen to chrys too? ugh.
look at the birds | bless this food
Pmarie is smart. I would bet that the data is safe on the hard drive and the motherboard is what croaked. You can easily hook the hard drive directly up to another PC and try to download the files. You need a connector cable which you IT should have.
When my work computer died, my IT dept. did this and got all my stuff back. Hope this could work for you.
