Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby Led Weaning

I plan on starting solids at 6months, but I am starting to think about it now. Anyone on here do baby led weaning? If so, what sort of foods do you feed your child, especially when you started? For example, if I eat oatmeal and a banana myself for breakfast, would I just put little pieces of these on DS' plate? Also, for BLW, would you only offer foods that traditional solid age-food charts say are ok (i.e.avocodos at 6m, meat/yogurt at 9m, etc.) One more question - how do you offer foods that are not easily mashed like apples?

Re: Baby Led Weaning

  • I would definitely ask on kellymom.  A lot of women do baby led weaning, and there should be info on the website as well.

  • I puree baby foods- you steam cut up apples and then you blend them until they look like a smoothie- for first stage; then second stage you cut things in very little pieces- I would wait on "non mushy" foods like apples until they are good at chewing; you can make toast, waffles, eggs, etc, and cut them in small pieces;  you can give oatmeal; canned fruit like pears, etc, just cut up into small pieces ; cheerios; etc
