Can you wean off of warm bottles?

DS will only drink warmed up bottles because he is used to warm breastmilk.. is there a way to wean them off of this to drink room temperature milk?

Re: Can you wean off of warm bottles?

  • Is it pumped breast milk or is it that warm when he breastfeeds? If it's pumped, maybe you can try to warm it less and less each time to wean him off. Some kids are perfectly fine with a "cold turkey switch" and not weaning. Maybe that would work for him.

  • It was both pumped and breastmilk for awhile but now he is only on formula and used to refuse the room temperature bottles, so I'll try to warm less and less and hope that works!
  • I BFd until 7.5mos and did go to warm formula bottles afterwards. Got into that habit pretty good, too. At 10 months, in preparation for weaning her to cow's milk at 11.5mos I started just slowly making the bottles cooler until she was drinking fridge-cold formula. I took about a month and went from really warm, to barely warm, lukewarm, room temp, cool, cold-ish, and then fridge cold. It felt like it took forEVER but by 11mos I knew I at least wouldn't have to worry about warming cow's milk once she was off bottles!

Also, it's easy to control the temp when you're mixing powder with tap water.

(oh, I did try just giving it to her cold one day and that was an epic fail!)

I'd like ot know this too. DS was BF for the first 3 mos and ever since he will only drink the formula warm.
