Baby Names

How do you think this boy name is pronounced?

DH and I found in our BN book, the name Pace for a boy.  It says it's Hebrew having to do with Passover, or peaceful man.

I found one website and it appears it would be pronounced like Paz (with the a sounding like ahhhh).

Another site make it seem like it would rhyme with face.

What do you think?

Re: How do you think this boy name is pronounced?

  • Not knowing the history behind it or anything, my initial thought was like face. But then I thought maybe it's like Pacey if you're asking how we think it's pronounced...

  • That's what I'm not sure about either!  I'm finding many mixed reviews on the name itself anyway!

DH and I initially thought like face as well - but if it's supposed to be something else, we'd rather not use it because he'd constantly be correcting people on the pronunciation!

    Thanks!

  • I would think it would be prononunced like face.  It could be Pacey, but that makes me think of the old show Dawson's Creek.  Was that character a boy or girl?  I can't remember.

  • I am pretty sure that the name you wrote would be pronounced "pah-chA" (that a is a long A--as in "ace").  Every time I have seen that name in music (when singing in church), it was said that way.

  • As a teacher, names like this are very hard.  If I saw this name on my class roster on the first day of school, I would pronounce it like it rhymes with "face."  But then I'd feel really bad if I pronounced it wrong.

  • At first I thought just Pace (rhymes with Lace) but then I thought maybe Pacey?

This is how I'd pronounce it.  But if I didn't know how to pronounce Italian, I'd being saying it rhymed with face.
