allergies

Has anyone's infant seen an allergist?  Maliyah has an appointment on Monday and I'm nervous.  I suspect she has both indoor and outdoor allergies (classic symptoms) and we're likely going to have to find new homes for our cats.  If your LO has been, what do they do?  My DH went as an adult and had to endure the hundereds of needs (OK, maybe not hundreds, but way more than I'd subject her to).  I need to know what we're in for.

Re: allergies

  • We go on the 29th... I suspect wheat and dairy. :(

  • My nephew goes to an allergist.  They do his testing in groups, about one time a month, so he didn't have to have it all at once.  His doc said that since he's always lived in a house with cats, it's pretty much impossible for him to be allergic to them (something about something they give off - I should listen more carefully).  I don't know if that's a fact or a theory, but it seems to be true for my nephew.  Most of his allergies appear to be to food (beef, dairy, soy).  Poor little guy can hardly eat anything.  Thankfully, the doc suspects the allergies are more an auto-immune response than true allergies, but who knows.
  • Interesting - thanks for that info.  I guess it'll be a waiting game.  I'd hate to say adios to the cats, but if that's part of what's making her suffer, it's a no-brainer (obviously).
  • I have also read that if your LO has lived w/animals the whole time, it is almost impossible for them to be allergic. I hope that is the case for you. I can't imagine having to give up a family pet.
