We don't know.
Found out when we got to the clinic that birthmom's medicaid hasn't been approved yet, so she was only able to get the exam and we got to listen to the heartbeat with the doppler and the NP made a guess, but I've heard that's an old wives tale, so I'm not going to make any plans.
We go back 7/16 for an u/s (hopefully medicaid is approved by then!).
Re: It's a....
That's a bummer. There's an old wives tale way to tell from a heartbeat? I never knew that.
Did they tell you that Medicaid will definitely pay for it? We were told (take it for what it is) that a lot of times Medicaid won't pay to tell the gender. I really don't know much about pregnancy or what happens at the doctors office but that sounds strange. There isn't a separate ultrasound for that right??
She's not had any prenatal care, and they said medicaid covers one u/s for confirming and/or screening purposes. Apparently with her last pregnancy she had an u/s a week for the last trimester b/c they thought baby was measuring big. And medicaid paid for every one. So I'm guessing it's not that difficult to come up with a reason for them to pay if you have to!
That old wives tale is totally false! They told my mom I was a boy up until the minute I was born because I had a fast (or slow, can't remember the myth) heartbeat. Let me tell you that I couldn't be more girly!
Sidenote: Did they not have u/s machines 30 years ago? Or were they just not that good? I never thought to ask my mom...
