Babies: 9 - 12 Months

WWYD?

OK so I get over to MIL's house after work to pick up DD.  I notice that DD's paci is laying around on the quilt that she has been playing on.  I know, it doesn't sound like anything... but here's the deal.  DD hasn't wanted her paci since she was 3 months old... she started refusing it around that time, so we just don't give it to her anymore.  I figured her not wanting her paci was a great blessing... we wouldn't have to wein her off of it later.  But when I asked MIL if she's been giving it to DD she said yes, that she hasn't really wanted it but she'll let her play with it.

Would this bother you??  My thinking is that if DD doesn't want or need her paci anymore then don't give it to her... if she's even playing with it then there's the potential of her getting attached to it and not wanting to give it up later.

I'm going to mention this to DH when he gets home... and probably let him say something to MIL about it.  But what would you do?

  • I don't think it's a big deal.?

  • DS plays w/ a lot of things he isn't attached to!  I don't think it's a big deal.

  • I wouldn't be too upset over it but if you are worried that it will be a problem then speak up to your MIL or have your DH do it.

My DS stopped taking pacis when he discovered his thumb but I still have one or two in his toy box that he will occasionally chew on and bat around.

  • Thanks ladies... sometimes I wonder if I overreact about certain things.  I really hope it'll be a non-issue.  I guess I just wonder on her reasoning for doing certain things sometimes...  oh well.

  • For some reason, at the end of the day small things bother me more than they should. Usually in the morning I feel silly for even caring about it.

See how you feel in the morning.

    This exactly.  No biggie.

  • If it really is a big deal to you just don't send one with DC.
  • My MIL did the same thing, I just told her I didn't want DD to have a paci anymore and she said "ok" and she didn't give her the paci anymore. :-)
