Any carpet cleaning recs?

We've been in our house 4 years (new carpet when we moved) and are finally going to have the carpets cleaned.  Any recs?

So far on my list to call are Stanley Steemer, ChemDry, Sears, and AmeriGreen... any rants or raves?  Or other suggestions?

TIA!

ETA:  Do these services usually include moving the furniture around, or do you have to do that yourself?  (Clueless!)

Re: Any carpet cleaning recs?

  • Call the Kirby guy and let him come clean your carpet while trying to sell you their vacuum/carpet cleaner.  :)  Just kidding, although unsuspecting naive people that we are, we did end up with our loft carpet cleaned that way ...3 hours later.  At least it was free!

Seriously though, I'm curious to see what responses you get.  We want to get the rest of our carpet cleaned as well.

  • We just had ours cleaned last week by Lighthouse Carpet Care.  It was under $100 for 6 rooms, 2 hallways and stairs and they moved all furniture, even our couch.

I got a coupon in the mail and used them and was very satisfied.

  • Say no to ChemDry.  My mom used to use them all the time, but I hear more and more that they don't do that great of a job.  I think Suzanne posted that ~Sears?~ did a great job.
  • We've used both Sears and Stanley Steemer.  Sears was by far the best!  They did a fabulous job and the carpet dried relatively fast.  They were very courteous and worked hard to get out any stains we had.  I would say no to Stanley Steemer.  The carpet felt soaked when they left and was still a little wet the next day (we had the carpets cleaned at 9am on Saturday and they were still wet on Sunday afternoon).  We'll definitely go with Sears the next time we need the carpets cleaned.
  • I do remember Suzanne saying Sears was awesome. I obviously don't live in Indy but around here, Stanley Steemer is horrible. They over-charge and do an inadequate job.
