Eggs Benedict

is calling my name, but, I guess I can't eat it b/c of the hollandaise sauce (raw eggs). Crying

Re: Eggs Benedict

  • I didn't even know it was raw eggs. I h ad eggs benedict at least 2 times a month while PG.

I'd say go for it. If you eat it daily maybe not but all things in moderation. If you really want it have some. I don't think a tiny bit of hollandaise is going to hurt you. But of course you have to do what you feel comfortable doing.

Totally agree.  The eggs are sort of cooked and there is lemon, just not hard cooked.  I'd be more inclined to eat it if I made it myself or had it in some higher place.

  • I say go for it. Splurge a little.

  • I was told absolutely none by my doctor.

Including "fancy" mayo...if mayo is made at the restaurant or their sauces have homemade mayo...no go.  No raw sprouts of any kind either.

I felt like someone was taking away my favorite teddy bear when they said this.

  • I skipped it. In addition to the hollandaise sauce, I like my poached eggs runny, which is also a no-no.

Me, either! I actually had eggs benedict (with crab....yummmmmm) at the breakfast DH and I had after I went to the clinic for my beta. I got the call from my RE that we were pregnant while inhaling eggs benedict.

    Great, now I'm craving it.

  • Go with whatever you're comfortable with, but I'd have some if I were in you shoes.  I'm SURE I had it when I was PG with the Nickster.  Dang it.  Now I want some.  That's my hands down, all time, favorite breakfast/brunch/lunch.  Ooo, with a nice glass of mimosa... yummo.  Or a spicy-spicy bloody mary...

    Bah.

  • I ate some a while back while prego. Honestly I would not worry about it. I have worked in food safety for 10 years. The risk is so low its not worth stressing over.

Hollandaise is heated to a point so some bacteria (if the eggs contained any) might be killed anyways.

  • H sauce is actually cooked a lil bit and probably enough to kill any bacteria.

  • Have you seen those seasoning packets, like Knorr brand, to make your own Hollandaise?  I would imagine those are totally safe... you probably just add water and butter or something like that.
