Yeah, I posted about that awhile ago and several people said they don't let their kids have drinks when it's not meal of snack time either.
What Kate did is ridiculous. If she didn't want the kids to drink right before the interview for whatever reason, it's one thing, but to drink right in front of Mady and not let her have water when she said she was thirsty is just mean.
That breaks my heart. How ridiculous. I can see that she wouldn't want to give one a drink if they were going on for a quick interview in like two seconds because then they'd ALL want a drink and it would be insanity, but really? To request a bottle of water and drink it in front of her like that? Awful.
I'm guessing that video's not going to help her child labor case at all...
ehhh...not the worst thing on the scheme of things...if you have a whiny daughter (I have 2) you can kind of sympathize with her...my girls are ALWAYS begging for this or that or whatever...while I probably would NOT have gotten the water myself, I don't think telling her DD no was the worst thing.
I guess the thing is you never know what happend RIGHT before they started taping..maybe kate said "ok..everyone go to the bathroom and get a drink of water." maybe not but maybe.
I'm sure people have judged me at times when my DD's beg to use the restroom and I say "no you just went 5 minutes ago." because they LOVE using public restrooms and washing their hands in the sink....So, yeah, it SEEMS like I'm denying them the right to use the bathroom and they may get whiney about it and argue...but I know my kids, I know they probably don't need to go or can wait 10 more minutes until we get home and I can't give in to EVERY SINGLE TIME they ask to use the restroom or whatever just because they like playing in the sink....
wow i guess the version I saw was deliberately edited. the link you posted wasn't putting Kate in a special mommy light or anything but it wasn't THAT awful -- the one I saw made the situation look worse. I hate the news. what a bunch of liars with this manipulative editing.

Ditto this.
Kate having water was the only problem I saw with that. We don't "really" know the rest of the details.
I mean one kid asks for water and then 7 follow, potty breaks...and so on.
I think it is absurd bc Kate made a point of asking for water for herself. I prob would not have given my kid water either, but I also would not request one and take a swig in front of her and just ignore her. It's almost like she did it intentionally. If they were going "on" in a minute or two, I don't see why Kate had to take time to request one for herself, either.
Yeah, when this was posted before, I didn't see the video, just read the summary, and I thought it was awful.
But watching it now, I don't think that was so awful. In fact, she even asked that someone off camera get the kids' cups ready so they could have them right after the interview. So it wasn't like she was saying they couldn't have anything to drink at all; just that they had to wait. It's no different than when I am in the middle of something, and my dd asks for a drink, and I tell her she will have to wait a minute until I'm done with what I'm doing.
I guess if you don't want 8 children begging for water before an interview, then sure, say no... but then don't get water yourself. that's just mean. it's not the denying... it's the drinking in front of a child whining for it.
I do agree that it was wrong, though that she got a drink for herself and then just ignored the girl. She could have given her the time of day and explained to her why she was saying no.
honestly, I know that its so easy to make Kate out to be a bittch -- and maybe she is. but the manipulation by the media is SCARY. My friend edits for a major news channel and what they 'choose' to show (or not show) is out of hand...and not celebrity news, but REAL news.
My computer's messed up, so the video was very jerky for me, and maybe I missed something, but I think we are micro-examining this family at this point....She wanted the kids to wait for drinks until after the interview was over. She took a drink herself. Let's crucify her.
I'm no fan of Kate, or her parenting, but I think making a bit deal over this is a little ridiculous. How many
moments during your day do you have a less than ideal interaction with
your child? Taken out of context, would you want someone to make generalizations about you based on that one interaction?
I'm about to write a blog post calling for this show to come off the air, btw. I seriously think that TLC making money off the destruction of a family is unethical.
I think the point isn't that she denied mady (the little wretch that she is) a drink in that particular moment- but that she then was like- Oh yeah! Good idea, I want something to drink, too!
that's just cruel.
When my kid is begging for a cookie, after she's had 2, I don't go grab one for myself and eat it right in her face (and cookies are not = to water, which I see as a basic necessity, and my kid has access to it all day, and a very small cup of it at night. because I rule, as the best mom in the wooooooorld!)
I think something swamp witch never learned is that you actually have to make small sacrifices for your kids, and when you have 8, you make more.
but not Kate! Oh, no. She was thirsty after all. Why should she wait? It was the kids who wanted to e interviewed at length, not her...(ha ha) the least she could get is a refreshing drink of water for her trouble!

ditto pin. and not that i'm a Kate lover but maybe just maybe she knew she had to go on and talk, she was nervous and drank without thinking.
