My drugdealer friend (pharmacist) said to start taking them 3months before ttc, ideally. If you take them sporadically you'd still have some in your system, I wouldn't worry overly much. Just start taking them at work, if you skip weekends no biggie. Or keep one bottle there one at work.
I'm a little more passionate about this than others... I think this should be part of sex ed. Every sexually active female should be taking folic acid, at least. In order for it to actually benefit the baby, it has to be in your system before you're 5 weeks pg, and most women don't even find out until they're already at that point. It's still a benefit to take the PNVs throughout pg, obviously, but for the main folic acid benefit - preventing spinal deformities - the window has already closed by then. If every woman took folic acid, think of how close we could come to eradicating that medical problem!

Exactly this.

Basically this. Folic acid should be in your system by the time you ovulate. I don't think it's necessary to take it months before you are TTC, (its a good idea in case there is an oops, but not necessary if you are taking good precautions) but definitely when you start TTC.

see, I learn something new on here everyday!! Thanks!
Since this is my O week, I'll try to do better and take it everyday.

Yeah, but that's why I say every sexually active woman should take it - not all women who get pg are TTC! I know it's unrealistic to think that'll actually happen, though...
Re: Clicky poll: PNV's
I always take PNVs. They are great as multivitamins and hey, you never know.
Liam is 5!
Well, I've been taking them off and on since May, but I'm SOOO bad at remembering to take a pill daily (this is why I had an IUD!) LOL
I need to put some in my purse, I always seem to remember them AFTER I get to work.
With Jake I took them 3mo before stopping BCP's, but I just can't seem to get back in the habit.
I'm lazy.
Exactly this.
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
