Great, might have mastitis

Any experiences?

Last night, a part of my breast hurt sooo bad. When I laid down or bend over, it really hurts. At that time I hadn't noticed any redness anywhere. I took some ib prufen this morning for a headache and the pain in my breast went away. It does't hurt to nurse and my nipples aren't sore or cracked. Then a while ago, I noticed redness where I had the pain earlier. I didn't notice any other redness at the time. I called the Dr and he said if I get sick, or a fever or if the redness spreads I need to come in. Then I looked again and the redness is on the other side now too. Ahh, I'm concerned.

The nursing is going so well and I'm wondering what effects this will have on nursing DD.

  • There was no denying when I had mastitis. ?I went from being totally fine to HORRIBLY ill within 4 hours. I was shaking, sweating, vomiting, passing out, and unable to walk. ?I have literally not been so sick in my entire life. ?I only had it in one breast. ?Is the redness on both sides of ONE breast, or is it on TWO breasts? ?Could it just be a clogged duct?

  • I felt like I had the flu when I had it.  I had a fever, chills, aches, it was awful.  The right side of my boob throbbed.

  • Oh, and I just kept nursing DD on the affected breast. ?It doesn't harm the baby at all and they told me that it'd actually help speed along recovery. ?My supply didn't dip or anything like that.?

  • The redness is on both sides of ONE breast. It could be a clogged duct, at least I'm hoping. I read that when you press the breast down while baby is nursing so they can breathe can cause that. I had been doing that too. Here is to hoping I don't get really ill and no mastitis. Man, the stuff we as women deal with!!
  • Try putting a warm compress on the area and take some ibuprofen.  That should help.  Hopefully it's not mastitis.
