Question about being a brides maid?

Im in a friends wedding its in year from next month.  She is only going to have 2 people on her side and 2 on his and dd is the flower girl.  She has yet to pick her maid of honor (we are both very close friends to her).  If the other girl is the maid of honor do I help her with the shower and all that stuff or does she take care of that all.  I kind of need to plan ahead money wise (we are living pay check to pay check so I want to put some extra money away).  We would have to pay for my dress, dd's dress and hotel where ever she has it at (we are 2 hrs from her).  This is the first wedding I have been in and my sister paid for my shower because the other girls were not able to go so it was really just my family.

Re: Question about being a brides maid?

  • yes, typically all the bridesmaids help pay for the shower.
  • Agreed with pp - usually all BMs pay for the shower (at least all who can attend and are hosting it - one of my BMs was out of state and couldn't come and I'm sure she didn't pay for the shower).

  • If she's a friend, she won't put you in the position of paying for anything other than your own expenses for the wedding.  If you're living paycheck to paycheck and have a child/family to support, I'd decline being a bridesmaid if it's going to cause financial hardship for your family.
  • For once, I actually agree with gibs.

I would decline being a bridesmaid if it is going to require that much financial stretching. Weddings are expensive enough to attend, let alone being in the wedding.
