Baby Names

to use or not to use

So, my DHs cousin just had a baby in February who they named Maddison. They live in Georgia, we live in California. Do you think that if we named our daughter Addison that it is too close to Maddison?  We like the name Addison alot but don't want anyone to feel like we copied them or whatever... Help!

Re: to use or not to use

  • Well, you pretty live on opposites sides of the country so I don't think you really have too much to worry about.  And honestly, if that is the name you like then go for it.  Does it really matter that it is one letter off?  If it really bugs you though you could change your spelling of Addison to Adison to make it look a little bit different (you know - if for some reason their names were ever side by side for something).  And if they feel like you copied them, then they would more then likely be flattered.

  • I don't think it's too close. Even being one letter off, they sound very different to me. I would say, if you like it, use it.

  • I have cousins who have done that.  One has a Madison and one has an Addison. It is rare that they get mixed up.

  • I think it's fine for cousins.

    This.

  • I don't think it is a big deal unless you see them daily which obviously, you don't.
