If your parents come to visit and it's during the week, do both you and DH take time off to hang out with them, or just you? Is it the same scenario with his parents?
The 'rents are finally coming to visit (after 2.5 years away) and I realized I'll have way more PTO than DH. I'll likely take off to hang with them, while DH still goes to work.
Re: Random family-related question
my parents live about an hour drive away (without traffic, closer to 2 with traffic). Mom comes frequently, she only needs me there - if DH is around then he'll join us for food or whatever. I see my mom pretty frequently now - like 2x's a month
DH works with his parents. They live 4 miles away and he sees them everyday. I see them maybe once a month with him.
Now, if it was all different and they all lived far away and we saw them infrequently, I still think that only I would take off for my parents, and only him for his parents - except for weekends of course when we'd both be around.

It different now that we live by my parents. However when we lived away from both we usually both took off when DH's parents came in. When mine came in just I took off and DH joined us after work. DH's parent are more high maintenance and he can't wrangle them by himself. My parent on the other hand could entertain themselves if we asked them too.

I'd probably take more time off for my family visiting than DH, but we'd probably take a day together. Vice versa for his parents and me. I'd also try and work on the weekend for his parent's visits.
my mom would rather hang out w/ just me, so usually we don't worry about it if H can't hang too
it's nothing personal against him, she'd just rather spend time being girly w/ me than trying to do things or talk about things that are interesting for him
